SINGER Amy Macdonald has admitted she was against doing a Glasgow Hydro gig - because she was scared she wouldn't sell any tickets.

The songstress' lack of self-confidence was short-lived however when music fans quickly snapped up the briefs for the December 17 show at the 14,300 capacity venue as she explained.

"There is only tickets left right up in the gods where no one wants to sit which I just didn’t expect. It's totally blown me away that I have sold so many tickets especially in the year we have had where nobody knows if they are coming or going so that just made me feel so incredibly loved.

"I was always very against doing a Hydro gig because I didn’t think I would be able to sell the tickets. My manager had to convince me to do it."

She added: "I cannot wait for that show...to just be with an amazing, great room, full of thousands and thousands of people.

"It will feel like the perfect end to the year because it is coming near Christmas.

"Everybody is always that bit happy at that time of year so having a Friday night in Glasgow just before Christmas at the Hydro will just be the perfect end to this year."

Glasgow Times:

Before her solo stint at the city's biggest music venue, Amy first has to entertain up to 50,000 music fans when she takes to the main stage at TRNSMT on Sunday, September 12.

"How nuts is it saying that we are excited that we are allowed to go to a festival?" she beamed.

"I am so looking forward to it. I can’t wait, not just to perform but just to be there, see people, have my mates there and just feel like we have something going on again," she added.

Glasgow Times:

With five albums under her belt, Amy, who turns 34 on Wednesday, has quite the task on her hand choosing her setlist for the Glasgow festival.

She might be best known for hits This is The Life and Mr Rock & Roll but she promises fans a set that embodies all of her work.

She said: "I want to keep things as upbeat as possible. I am not known for my dreary ballads thankfully. There will be lots of upbeat tunes.

"I have quite a lot of rehearsals coming up with my bandmates so we will hopefully get everything nailed down so we are as slick as possible.

"There will be a mixture of songs through all my five albums including my most recent one but I won't forget any of the old favourites either."

Amy however admits she did forget the power anthem Woman of the World on her setlist which might just be the perfect song for the festival crowd after it gained popularity on the airwaves when it was given the GBX treatment by DJs George Bowie and Sparkos.

So does she plan to get the party started at TRNSMT by blasting the GBX version of the anthem?

"I hadn’t even thought about it. When my band and I were going through what songs to play I actually totally forgot about Woman of the World. We totally kind of slipped over it.

"I thought to myself I better e-mail them and remind them that this is probably a good one to play but I hadn’t thought.

"Maybe I will phone George Bowie and say do you want to come out and do your little remix?" she laughed.

Glasgow Times:

The Bishopbriggs born and raised star has come a long way since she was first propelled into the spotlight in 2007.

She just released her fifth album The Human Demands last year and has grown a huge fanbase in Europe where she regularly performed pre-pandemic.

And now she is ready to get back to doing what she does best after the pandemic put a pause on live music.

She said: "I brought my most recent album out at the end of last year. I don’t ever feel like an album is finished until you perform it live and I have never been able to do that so I have this weird feeling of being in limbo.

"Looking back, the last time I performed in front of an audience would have been January, 2020 so it has been a year and a half which is such a long time.

"I am really looking forward to getting back.

"I will probably be a little bit emotional about it. I am quite an emotional person anyway so I can't promise that there won't be tears but I think it will just be a great experience.

"There is always amazing atmospheres at festivals anyway. A Glasgow crowd is always brilliant and add to that this has been the first time that we have all been allowed to hang out like this, hear live music and go to festivals in such a long time.

" It will be a really special occasion and there will be a lot of very emotional, very happy and very excited people and I will definitely be one."

Amy will play TRNSMT on Sunday, September 12. She will also perform a one-off midnight show at King Tuts Wah Wah Hut on Saturday, September 11.
