A proud Glasgow man who interviews local success stories in his podcast is hoping to inspire others.
Gary Dempsey has been running the GlasGo Podcast since August 2020, chatting to Glaswegians from all walks of life and careers to celebrate their success and work ethic.
He said: “I’ve always been interested in people’s careers and the journey behind the success. We very rarely sing our own praises in Glasgow, and I wanted to try and change that by showcasing some amazing individuals and their journeys.”
Previous episodes have featured musicians, personal trainers, various business owners, a tattoo artist and a retired police officer.
The GlasGo studio has also welcomed some more well-known faces such as comedian Gary Faulds and footballer Christie Murray.
Gary, who works in banking and does the podcast in his free time, said: “I have genuinely loved every guest I’ve interviewed, and I’ve taken something away from all of them. Ones that stick out are Chris McInnes, who owns @Tophski’s and @Lunch in Glasgow. Chris didn’t have the best results leaving school but had a passion for dealing with the public and branding and had put that to amazing use.
“Also, Reece Donnelly who owns Theatre School of Scotland. I have never spoken to someone with so much drive and ambition for what they do and he’s the prime example of what hard work gets you.”
Gary added: “I always let the guests do the talking as it’s their journey we want to hear. I’ve been lucky as everyone on the show has been so open and honest as well as giving up their time to come on.”
Gary reaches out on social media for professions he wants to interview, and says he gets a lot of audience interaction.
He said: “A lot of guests have been recommended by listeners of the show. I get a lot of positive messages from listeners who have taken something away from listening which has helped their own career journey and that’s what I wanted from the podcast.”
The GlasGo podcast also aims to inspire those at the beginning of their career path, with Gary hoping to one day take guests into schools for Q&A sessions, and that he too feels uplifted by those he interviews.
He said: “I’ve had a few guests where I have left the studio totally inspired. A recent guest, Stephen Arthur, creator and co-writer of the show Weegies, shared his own journey from working various jobs whilst trying to get his acting break. His show has recently been picked up by Amazon Prime.
“Interactions like that show that if you have a dream or ambition to create something there are no limits to what you can do."
GlasGo Podcast is available on Spotify, Apple and to watch YouTube.
