A FIRST offender threatened his neighbour with violence amid a dispute over noise.

William Main, 55, turned on Patrick Currie outside their properties in Glasgow's Riddrie on March 25, 2020.

Glasgow Sheriff Court heard Mr Currie returned home in his car when Main ran towards him.

Prosecutor Darren Harty said: "He told Mr Currie that he was going to attack him."

Police attended and Main was later arrested at his home.

Main pleaded guilty this week to behaving in a threatening or abusive manner.

John Kilcoyne, defending, told the court that the former roofer had been living on the street for more than 23 years with his wife and three daughters.

The lawyer added: "The background is there had been a neighbour dispute.

"He has rented this property from the council while the neighbour had been renting their property for five years.

"There had been an issue with the level of noise.

"There was incident before this one and on the day in question, he lost his temper and said he was going to batter him up and down the street

"He has never been in trouble before, it was simply a rush of blood to the head and he appreciates the fear and alarm he would have caused the victim.

"They still reside beside each other and are still neighbours who have ongoing involvement with the council.

"There have been no incidents since then."

Sheriff Tom Hughes deferred sentenced for six months for Main to be of good behaviour.

He said: "It's not appropriate to take matters into your own hands.

"As your lawyer, said, there are matters ongoing with the council to resolve this and that's the way to go ahead."
