AN edible garden is set to spring up in Govan.
Galgael Trust will be partnering with creative programme Dandelion to grow the Govan Unexpected Garden in their yard at Ibrox Terrace.
The garden, which has been commissioned by EventScotland and funded via the Scottish Government, will transform a former timber storage facility that backs onto GalGael's workshop on Fairley Street into a community space.
They will be working alongside Tenement Veg, a working co-operative in the Southside that grows and shares vegetables with the community, to create a growing and learning space.
The garden will host a number of events throughout summer and will end with a harvest event in September.
David Lees of Galgael Trust said: "The past two years of a global pandemic have only served to deepen experiences of isolation and loneliness, meaning spaces and activities to gather round are needed more than ever.
"Govan’s Unexpected Garden will bring people together for growing, sharing food and music – cultivating local resilience in ways that are both regenerative of the commons and restorative for individuals."
Dandelion's Unexpected Gardens will also include a Floating Garden which will be launched from Glasgow in June and will tour the Forth and Clyde Canal.
Neil Butler, festival and events director, Dandelion said: "We’re excited to be able to announce the location of our Govan Unexpected Garden and really look forward to watching it come to life as it grows alongside the 12 other gardens across Scotland this summer.
"Sustainability lies at the heart of our programme, and we can’t wait to see people from all over Scotland sowing, growing, and sharing food, music and ideas."
Dandelion is one of 10 major creative projects commissioned as part of UNBOXED: Creativity in the UK, which is taking place across the UK this year.
The full programme of events at the Govan Unexpected Garden will be announced at the end of April.
