A DOG walker was taken to hospital after being attacked on a golf course in Johnstone.
The incident happened around 5.55pm yesterday at Cochrane Castle Golf Course.
The 49-year-old was rushed to Royal Alexandra Hospital in Paisley with a serious head injury.
Prior to the incident, the man had been involved in a verbal altercation with a group of golfers near the 16th green and 17th tee of the course.
Police Scotland has launched an investigation and is asking anyone with information to come forward.

Detective Sergeant Jason Buxton, of Paisley CID, said: "A man has been seriously injured and it’s imperative we trace whoever is responsible.
"Officers have been carrying out enquiries in the surrounding area since this incident.
"We believe the area would have been quite busy with golfers and would appeal to anyone who may have witnessed the incident to get in touch.
"If you were in the area at the time, please think back and get in touch with us if you have any information which may be able to assist our investigation."
