Colourful mural unveiled at Enable Glasgow's Garden Centre Open Day in Drumchapel

The mural, which was commissioned by social enterprise Fortune Works and created by street artist Barry the Cat, was revealed on Saturday at Enable Glasgow's annual Garden Centre Open Day on Drumry Road East. 

Hundreds of people turned up to see the design which encompasses everything Fortune Works does to support people with learning disabilities.

Jason Methven, Growing Together coordinator at Fortune Works who organised the mural, said: "The Garden Centre Open Day was a major success and was just topped off by the unveiling of our amazing new mural.

"Barry the Cat has done a magnificent job in capturing what we, as an organisation, are all about.

"And although it's on our building, the whole community will be able to enjoy it.

"We couldn't be happier with it and we have already had lots of compliments from people passing by enjoying it."

During the open day, people were able to purchase a variety of crafts and raffle tickets, while several organisations, including Glasgow City Council, The Bog Disability Group and Froglife, set up information stalls.

Operations manager David Campbell added: "The event was fantastic.

"Enable Glasgow has always played a big part within our community, so to be able to invite other groups down and welcome members of the public again was great.

"Our garden centre is open to members of the public year-round, we have amazing quality products cared for by service users and knowledgable staff, so please support a local charity and pop in if you can."

Fortune Works, which was founded in 1960, is a social enterprise that supports 117 people with learning disabilities to make valuable economic contributions to the wider community through meaningful work.

It is part of Enable Glasgow, which also runs two supported living centres in the city supporting people with disabilities.
