GIGABIT broadband has been expanded to thousands more homes in Newton Mearns.
Virgin Media O2 has announced today it has connected more than 2800 homes to its ultrafast network as part of its Project Lightning network expansion programme.
The homes are now able to benefit from Gig1 which offers top speeds of 1130Mbsp, which is 17 times fast than the local average. and will benefit busy households that are working remotely, streaming TV shows and films, video calling and playing games online.

Christopher Matthews, director of construction and delivery at Virgin Media O2, said: "Newton Mearns is just the latest town to benefit from our network expansion, where we’ve delivered our futureproof service - with speeds 17 times faster than the local average – to thousands more homes.
"Whether it’s kicking back with a classic on Netflix, downloading the latest Fortnite update on Xbox or video calling on Zoom, thousands of additional Newton Mearns residents now have access to the connection that can keep up with all this and more."
Virgin O2 media is the only major broadband provider to have rolled out next-generation gigabit services to its entire network of more than 15 million premises in December 2021.
