A NORTH Glasgow community group has launched a website to keep locals up to date on events.
Maryhill Activity Directory has been publishing a booklet regularly for two years but has recently decided to embrace technology.
Two weeks ago, they launched their own website, or web app, which collates local events, groups and things to do in greater Maryhill.
Jim Hamilton, a Deacon at Maryhill Parish Church and co-creator of the web app, said: “We have tried other kinds of websites in the past and not been very successful, but we have launched this new web app and I am feeling confident is very good.
“It is there to get the information of activities out to people, even though there aren’t as many activities as we had before Covid, so it’s important to let everyone know about the ones we do have on.
“This is a good and easy way of doing it and it’s hopefully something that everyone can buy into.
“There is so much that goes on that we don’t know if we don’t work with each other."

A web app is an application program that is stored on a remote server and delivered over the Internet through a browser interface.
Much like the booklet previously, it aims to spread information about events and bring the community together.
It is free to access on any computer or mobile device and easy to use. It can also be saved as a shortcut and used as an app.
The group is encouraging local organisations to get in touch with any relevant events, so they can update their directory and include as many programs as possible.
They aim to encourage people to get out of their homes and socialise.
The deacon said: "Getting involved in these activities is crucial. It can provide isolation and loneliness, it can become a really central part of their lives, by just getting them reinvigorated and giving them a purpose to live.
“It’s really important for some people to find something they enjoy and make friendships wider than just where they stay. I was slightly talking about the elderly there, but this applies to any age groups.
“We do a couple of clubs in the church for toddlers, we have Boys Brigade, and a playgroup for young mums who maybe haven’t been out with their children in the last few years and they can interact with other children before they go to nursery.”
