PAISLEY will soon host a festival celebrating the cultures of refugees.

Home Sweet Scotland will showcase diverse food, music and art with two events taking place on Sunday, June 26 to mark World Refugee Day.

Between 1.30pm and 4.30pm, guests can enjoy a range of fusion food, crafts, stalls and a set from Jambo! Radio at the World Foodie Boogie, taking place at the Students' Union on Storie Street.

Later from 6.30pm, a concert curated by Matt Hickman will feature a number of artists, including Washington, Paix, Becky Sikasa, Bemz and Matt's own band Brownbear.

"This event is designed to have something for everyone and to be welcoming to all."

While tickets cost £3 for the World Foodie Boogie and £12/£10 concessions for the evening performance, anyone who wishes to attend but is worried about finances can email oneren_arts@renfrewshire.co.uk.

Matt added: “Since both these events are open to all, we aim to break down barriers, help people who have come to Scotland settle in their new home and show that refugees are welcome and valued members of our society.

“Using the arts and in particular music is a great way of integrating refugees, as we can experience the variety and richness of the different cultures they bring to Scotland.”

Janis Marshall Reilly, OneRen’s Performance Programmer (Children and Families) said: “Refugee Festival Scotland takes place every year in June to celebrate World Refugee Day.

“Each event helps to shine a light on the cultural richness and diversity of our communities.

“The Festival is a celebration of the food and drink, music and poetry, art, dance, language and ideas that people bring with them when they settle in Scotland.

“OneRen is proud to be part of this annual national fiesta with its own mini-festival in a day – Home Sweet Scotland.”
