A PUB in Glasgow city centre is donating its budget for Jubilee decorations to a local homeless soup kitche.

The Waterloo Bar, on Argyle Street, is making the £300 donation to Homeless Project Scotland help feed people in need in the city. 

Bosses said in a Facebook post that the decision would not be dictated by "political or religious" beliefs, but rather by "common sense".

They wrote: "To all our customers. Although the Jubilee celebrations are this week we have decided instead of spending money on balloons/bunting/giveaways etc we are going to donate £300.00 to the unit under the Central Station bridge to give food etc to the homeless.

"This is by no means a political/religious statement…….just common sense.

"Thank you for understanding."

The soup kitchen under the nearby Hielanman's Umbrella is run by Homeless Project Scotland, a grassroots organisation feeding hundreds of people every week. 

Founded in 2019, last year it was running 144 soup kitchens, provided 55,000 litres of hot food, topped up over 200 mobile phones, and delivered well over 2,000 toiletry packages.

The group also works with local authorities to help house individuals and direct those in need to drug and alcohol services.
