Police have said there was no threat to the public after the evacuation of Glasgow's Buchanan Bus Station this afternoon.

The commuter hub was swarmed by cops who told passengers to leave just after 12.15 pm following the discovery of a suspicious package. Passengers claimed the evacuation was due to a bomb threat.

Cops then locked down nearby Killermont Street, North Hanover Street and Cowcaddens Road creating an exclusion zone from the normally busy area.

Callum Sim, 25, from Glasgow said: “I was getting on the bus to Oban and as I sat down, the bus driver told us all to get off.
“Then, we were told to go back inside underneath this shelter bit and as I was inside there, and late we were moved outside.
“They weren’t telling anybody anything, I only managed to find out from another person walking past, who told me it was a bomb threat.
“He told me it was a package that they found on its own.
“They were asking us to move halfway through the town, down to Sauchiehall Street.
“It started around 12.25pm and finished at 1.30pm.
“I was nervous, I think everybody was. You never know, it could be true or false.
“They never shared any information other than that we can go back on the bus and go.
“There was a huge police presence, cars blocking the roads and officers walking about.
“The reason people weren’t panicking is because nobody knew what was going on.”

Once a cordon was in place and the roads were closed, the public was asked to avoid the area. The Glasgow Times also understands that the nearby John Lewis and Glasgow Royal Concert Hall were evacuated.

A Stagecoach driver told one of our reporters that a box was left at the station.  He claims this is what raised the alarm.
