A court worker has been offered compensation from online shopping giant Amazon after one of their drivers reportedly ploughed into her car - after the Glasgow Times stepped in to help.

We told yesterday how Rebecca King’s Toyota Corolla suffered significant damage to its rear light, bumper and back wing after the Amazon van reportedly smashed into it outside her home in Rutherglen.

An eyewitness to the crash took photographs of the vehicle driving off after hitting the car.

After we highlighted her plight, a representative from Amazon got in touch with the couple and the company has now offered to cover the cost of any repairs.

Mrs King, 60, said: “I can’t thank the Glasgow Times enough for their incredible help.

“We were getting nowhere with Amazon or the police until the paper stepped in and put some pressure on them to sort it out.

“After refusing to deal with us at all, Amazon has now said it will pay for the damage to the car, which to be honest is the very least they can do.

"They should have reached out to us when we first made them aware of what happened and investigated it properly, rather than behaving like they are above the law.

“I still feel badly let down by the firm. I can't help but think though that if it wasn’t for the Times getting involved, we’d still be banging our heads off a brick wall.”

The crash happened on April 9 and Mrs King says she hopes police and Amazon will trace the driver, who she says continues to drop off parcels in her street after the crash. 

A spokesperson for Amazon confirmed they are now in touch with officers.

They added: “We have very high standards for the delivery service providers we work with and how they serve customers. We are engaged with the police and have reached out to Mrs King to make this matter right.”

A Police Scotland spokesperson added: “We received a report of a crash involving a stationary vehicle and a van which left the scene on Parkhill Drive in Rutherglen on April 29.

“The incident is believed to have occurred between 2.15 and 3.15pm. There are no reports of any injuries and enquiries are ongoing.”
