A BUSY road in Newton Mearns is to undergo four months of improvement works.

From July 4 until mid-October 2022, Scottish Water will carry out upgrades to around 1.2km of water mains on Mearns Road.

The work, worth £500,000, will begin at the junction with Kinnaird Avenue and will take place in phases.

From Monday, July 4 for approximately two weeks, temporary traffic lights will be in operation on Mearns Road at the junctions with Kinnaird Avenue and Duart Drive.

When this is completed, work will then move to the junction with Falkland Avenue on Saturday, July 16 for around one week. Temporary traffic lights will be in place.

From Monday, July 25, work will move further along Mearns Road and the section will be closed between Broomlands Road and Kirkle Drive, with diversions in place.

Work will move to the junctions of Kirkle Drive, Broomcroft Road, Neidpath Road East, and Laigh Road on Monday, August 8 for around five weeks.

Temporary traffic lights will be in operation while the work is being carried out. 

From Monday, September 5, for approximately one week, work will commence at the junction of Roddinghead Drive and Mearns Road.

Temporary traffic lights will be in place.

Then the work is expected to move further past the road’s junction with Roddinghead Drive on Monday, September 12. 

From this point, the stretch of Mearns Road up to Flenders Road will be closed to through traffic for around five weeks and drivers are urged to follow diversions.

Finally, for one week from Monday, October 17, work will move back down Mearns Road with the road closed to through traffic between its junctions with Kinnaird Avenue and Falkland Avenue.

Diversions will be in place.
