Graduates will hear from 'rock royalty' Simon Neil next week as he accepts an honorary degree from Glasgow Caledonian University.
The Biffy Clyro Frontman is set to receive a Doctor of Letters (DLitt) for his 'continued inspiration to all creatives the world over'.
Throughout a 25-year career, the three-piece band has received countless awards and nominations as well as platinum-selling albums in the UK and beyond.
Individually, Neil has been honoured with Kerrang!’s Classic Songwriter Award, as well as the inaugural Fender Play Award at the 2018 Q Awards.
Ahead of next week's ceremony the Ayrshire-born vocalist, guitarist and songwriter said: “To receive this doctorate is an honour I could never have expected. To receive it in Glasgow, a city which has featured so long and so supportively in the band’s story, is the stuff of dreams.
"I am also proud to be connected to such a forward-thinking institution as Glasgow Caledonian University, and accept this honour with gratitude and respect.”
Amongst the eight other recipients of honorary degrees this year are Deacon Blue singer-songwriter Ricky Ross, Mental health campaigner Jonny Benjamin and Booker prize winner Bernardine Evaristo.
Graduates will also hear messages from the University's leadership team, including Chancellor Dr Annie Lennox OBE.
Principal and Vice-Chancellor, Professor Pamela Gillies CBE FRSE, said: “Graduation ceremonies are very special events at which the whole University community comes together as one to celebrate the considerable achievements of our talented students, all of whom are strongly committed to our mission for the common good.
“Graduations also afford us the opportunity to welcome distinguished individuals into our GCU family as honorary graduates.
"This year we are privileged indeed to honour many worthy recipients.
"They all share a deeply held core set of values that align with our own.
"They authentically live these values and are an inspiration to us all.”
