A MAN has been rushed to hospital following an assault in the city centre.

Emergency services were called to Union Street at around 11.30am following a report that a man had been assaulted.

The Scottish Ambulance Service (SAS) confirmed one ambulance and the trauma team were sent to the scene and a 45-year-old man was taken to Queen Elizabeth University Hospital for treatment.

His condition is unknown.

Union Street between Gordon St and Argyle St is currently closed to all traffic and pedestrians with diversions in place.

Members of the public have been advised to avoid the area as officers say access will be restricted for 'some time'.

An investigation is now underway.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: "Around 11.30 am on Thursday, June 30 police were called to a report that a man had been assaulted on Union Street, Glasgow. 

"Officers and emergency services are at the scene and enquiries are continuing."

A SAS spokesperson said: "We received a call to attend an incident on Union Street, Glasgow, this morning.

"One ambulance and the trauma team were dispatched to the scene and a 45-year-old male was conveyed to Queen Elizabeth University Hospital."
