A MAJOR Tesco store in Glasgow has closed.
The Tesco Express branch located on Renfield Street near Glasgow Central train station is now permanently closed.
Bosses confirmed that they have made a 'difficult decision' to close the shutters.
The supermarket giant also confirmed that they had offered staff at the store roles within the company.
Meanwhile, they have assured city centre shoppers that they can still rely on other Tesco stores in the area.
A Tesco spokesman said “We have taken the difficult decision to close our Renfield street Express store.
"We have a number of stores nearby which will continue to serve the city centre.
“Our priority during the closure was to support our colleagues and all those affected were offered alternative jobs within Tesco.”
We previously reported that the Tesco Extra store in Parkhead closed permanently in April.
Last year, the Glasgow Times revealed that the store would close after running at a loss and was embroiled in discussions over the future of the store with its landlord.
Supermarket workers were left 'devastated' at the news that the store could not be saved, with USDAW union organiser John Todd saying it was "terrible news".
