Lewis Capaldi has hailed his headlining TRNSMT slot as the "best of his f**king life.

The Glasgow-born singer made his triumphant return to TRNSMT after he pulled out of last year’s show.

The 25-year-old is a favourite at the Glasgow Green festival since making his debut on the King Tuts stage in 2017.

And from the get-go he apologised to the festival crowd for not having new material, not that he needed to.

He said: “Glasgow how we f**king doing? It’s so f**king good to be back home.

“It’s good to be back I’ve been sitting on my arse for three years.”

He then added: “I was supposed to be here with a new album. But I’m a f**king lazy c**t.”

We think quite the contrary Lewis.

Opening up with upbeat Grace, the Bathgate singer reminded fans why he was worthy of his headlining spot. Forever and Don’t Get Me Wrong followed showcasing his amazing voice.

He introduced Hold You While You Wait by reflecting on his journey to superstardom.

He revealed he first played the song to 400 people at the festival and now he’s headlining.

He told the audience: "We have played this festival, this is our fourth year now I believe.

"Last year is the only time this festival has been on that I haven't f**king played the thing.

"So it started when we were first on here in 2017 over on the King Tuts stage. We were third on, on the Sunday.

"I think we opened the main stage in 2018 and we were diabolical. So I thought right that's it.

"And then we got asked to come back and play this before George Ezra in 2019 when Snow Patrol dropped out. 

"It was incredible and now here we are, headlining the f**king thing.

"Just want to let the kids know, you can do it too kids. You just need to be f**king oozing sex appeal to get here but you can do it too. 

"Anyway the reason I am telling you all this is because my manager sent me a video today playing (Hold You While You Wait) on that stage f**king in 2017 to about 400 f**king people. And now we are out here doing it in front of all of you."

A surprise cover of Vanessa Carlton's A Thousand Miles was a highlight before Lewis promised new music is on the way.

He joked: "I promise you new music is coming soon. I just bought a house and the mortgage is crippling me," as he urged fans to support his next release.

A stripped rendition of Abba's Dancing Queen completed his set with the smash hit Someone You Loved bringing TRNSMT to a close.

While a teaser of new music would have been nice, Capaldi is endlessly entertaining on stage and performs every song with his heart and soul.

His crown as Scotland's Beyonce is truly still intact.
