Plans have been put forward for more than 60 affordable homes at the site of a former social club in Linwood.
McTaggart Construction have asked for permission from Renfrewshire Council to build on land, which used to surround St Brendan’s Social Club, in Stirling Drive.
The development would consist of 64 residential units, including a mix of two-storey semi-detached and terraced housing, with cottage flats and a single-storey bungalow.
If approved, the work is expected to be ongoing for around 20 months — although a timeline would be confirmed nearer to the start date.
A design and access statement submitted by Robert Potter and Partners said: “After carefully considering the existing housing developments around the site along with the topography of the site, the proposals have been developed to reflect the nature of these by providing an active street frontage to Stirling Drive and Muirhead Drive together with the internal street network looping around a ‘village green’, whilst including landscaped pathways between the site and its surroundings.
“The intention being to ensure that the new development is well integrated within its local setting while at the same time providing an identifiable character and new attractive spaces.
“Access is taken at the site of the existing access from Stirling Drive in between Howden Drive and Wilson Avenue creating a staggered junction.
“The entrance to the development is signalled by unique architectural features to the two properties adjoining the access road. “This waypoint fenestration welcomes visitors, locals and residents to the development encouraging them to access the site and its paths.
“The careful positioning of characterful properties and avoidance of excessive monolithic terraces, together with the curvilinear street network connecting green spaces, creates a range of pleasant routes through the development for pedestrians, cyclists and traffic.”
The document said McTaggart has a “track record” of building “high quality” affordable homes and added that the plans complement the existing housing in the area.
The application is currently awaiting decision.
