A TOP cop has spoken out after a man has pleaded guilty to the 'brutal' murder of a woman in Glasgow.
The body of 54-year-old Jacqueline Grant was discovered in her flat in Cumlodden Drive in the city's Maryhill on Tuesday, April 6, 2021.
Today, 48-year-old Michael Dorey has pled guilty to murder at Glasgow's High Court.
Following the conviction, Detective Chief Inspector Stuart Grainger, of Police Scotland’s Major Investigation Team, has condemned the violent attack.
He also spoke of the 'devastation' Jacqueline's family have felt and thanked the wider public for contributing to the murder investigation.
DCI Grainger said: "Jacqueline died as a result of a brutal and sustained attack in her own home and her family have been left absolutely devastated.
"Although today’s conviction can’t change what happened, I hope the outcome brings them at least a degree of closure.
"Our thoughts remain with them at this extremely difficult time.
"I would like to thank members of the local community who came forward with vital pieces of information that assisted with our inquiry.
"Violence like this has no place in our society and will continue to work closely with our partners to bring perpetrators to justice."
Dorey is due to be sentenced at the High Court in Glasgow on Monday, August 15, 2022.
