Daniel Twist, one of the country's top experts on Eurovision, said: “Glasgow’s main rivals to become host city are, in my view, Liverpool and Manchester.
"Liverpool has a rich music culture, and Manchester has a fantastic infrastructure – and a bigger arena than Glasgow.
“However, Glasgow is such a popular choice with Eurovision fans, that I think it’s still the city to beat.
"This is partly because of the comedy film Eurovision made by Netflix, in which the Hydro was the host venue.
"This created something of an organic movement to make this fiction a reality – so in some ways we have to thank the film’s stars, Will Ferrell and Rachel McAdams, should this end up happening!
“Even putting that aside though, Glasgow is an incredibly worthy host, which would do the competition proud.”

Glasgow was selected alongside Birmingham, Leeds, Liverpool, Manchester, Newcastle and Sheffield.
As many as 20 cities sent in "expressions of interest" to host the event across the four countries of the UK.
Scotland hosted Eurovision before, but in Edinburgh, in 1972.
