A police officer feared for his health after a woman chewed on his arm.

Catherine London, 34, assaulted PC Kevin O’Neill at her home in Thornliebank on January 6, 2022.

The city’s sheriff court heard officers attended London’s property and heard “shouting and music”.

Officers approached London to speak to her but found her to be heavily intoxicated.

Prosecutor Amy Hunter said: “She began shouting and was asked to desist.

“She bit PC O’Neill on two occasions to the right hand which broke through the skin and left arm.”

London was then arrested.

Ms Hunter added: “The officer was required to have blood samples for six months.

“This put stress on his personal and family life waiting on the outcome.”

It was later found that PC O’Neill did not contract a disease.

London pleaded guilty this week to assaulting the constable to his injury.

Garvey McCardle, defending, told the court: “She realises this incident could have had difficult consequences for him.”

Sentence was deferred pending background reports until next month.

Sheriff Brian Cameron said: “Due to the serious nature of the charge and previous convictions the motion for bail has been refused.”
