A GLASGOW student has become an ambassador for a testicular cancer charity in a bid to encourage men to check themselves for signs of the disease.

Ethan McGuire, who is studying Economics at Glasgow University, is combining his studies with a new role as a university ambassador for The OddBalls Foundation.

The 19-year-old, from Aberdeen, will be helping the organisation to raise awareness of the signs of testicular cancer, which mostly affects men aged 15 to 49.

In his role, Ethan will visit schools, universities and workplaces to deliver talks and remind boys and men to check their testicles, removing stigma and embarrassment about doing so.

The ambassadors will also place The OddBalls Foundation’s Check Yourself Guides in public spaces and workplaces.

Speaking about his role, Ethan said: “I wanted to get involved with The OddBalls Foundation after seeing the positive work the previous ambassador was doing in the area to raise awareness about testicular cancer.

"My main priority with this role is to get into as many schools as possible.

"Importantly, I want to make an effort to visit schools that the foundation has not yet held talks at and educate as many people as possible about the dangers of the disease and the importance of checking for the signs.”

The OddBalls Foundation was founded in 2015 and is closely associated with the colourful underwear brand OddBalls.

Someone is diagnosed with testicular cancer every hour in the UK, but if detected early, it is curable in over 90% of cases.
