An East End club will be walking between 24 football grounds to raise funds for homeless charities and food banks in Glasgow.
Glasgow Saints Football Club was established in 2020 to help those in need in the community whilst promoting inclusivity and involvement at every level.
The club are now raising funds for The Everlasting Foodbank, The Kindness Homeless Team and Glasgow Saints through a Big Long Walk.
The Big Long Walk will be taking place on Sunday, September 4 when members of the three Glasgow Saints teams (Glasgow Saint’s Men’s, Glasgow Saint’s Women’s and Dennistoun Saints) along with backroom staff will walk 38 miles between Glasgow's major football grounds.
The team will walk for roughly 12 hours beginning at 8am at Glasgow Green and finishing at Celtic Park.
Along the way, the team will take a trip to some of Glasgow’s most famous stadiums including Ibrox Stadium, Hampden Park and Sir Alex Ferguson Park.
Darren Scobie, a Dennistoun Saints player, is the driving force behind the walk.
He said: “As a group, we all love Scottish football and support a diverse set of teams throughout the country, and as Saints players, we’re really passionate about improving the situation of people in our local community.
“I thought the walk would be a great opportunity to combine these passions, get together and raise money for the clubs’ associated charities.
“I’m really looking forward to the experience with my teammates and hopefully any money we can raise has a really positive impact.”
Emma Jones, Chairperson of Glasgow Saints Football Club, said: “At Glasgow Saints, we always try to do our bit for our community.
“Since day one we have put an effort into eliminating food poverty and isolation. When the covid pandemic hit, our community rallied together, and we were able to make a real difference. Now we’re facing a cost-of-living crisis and it’s as important as ever to support organisations that cater for the most vulnerable within society.
“The Everlasting Foodbank and Kindness Homeless Street Team are both non-means testing organisations within our community who work tirelessly for the benefit of those in need.
“We will continue to do what we can to support them in their efforts.”
