A CHINESE woman told a jury today that she believed she was trafficked to Scotland.

The woman, who cannot be named for legal reasons, stated she arrived in Glasgow on September 6, 2018.

She claimed that she was told that she would work as a dishwasher, baby sitter and massage work.

The woman claimed she was not paid by her Chinese "female boss" and later provided “sexual services” to men.

Jagpal Singh, 52, Donglin Zhang, 48, Vlassis Ntaoulias, 33, Jian Guang Yang, 62, and Chunmei Zhang, 38, are all on trial at the High Court in Glasgow.

The group, all from Glasgow, are said to have exploited a number of women mainly for prostitution at different addresses in the city.

Boonsong Wannas, 62, pleaded guilty during the trial to trafficking two women as well as managing and or assisting the management of a brothel.

The 12 overall charges span between August 2018 and February 2020.

The court heard from the woman who told the jury in evidence through a Mandarin interpreter that she was a hairdresser in China.

She claimed that she first became aware of work in Scotland through a friend who linked her to "female boss" with whom she had brief chats online using the name “Linda.”

Prosecutor Chris Fyffe asked if the woman knew what work she would be doing.

She replied: "When I was in China, the person told me I can wash dishes also babysit and maybe massage work."

The woman stated that her visa was sorted by others and she was collected by a Chinese man and woman at the airport then taken to an apartment in Glasgow.

She claimed that she stayed in the apartment for a few weeks with another Chinese woman who did massage work.

The woman added that the female boss stayed in the same building with her boyfriend who was "black."

Mr Fyffe referred to a police statement the woman gave in which she referred to him with the name "Gerry."

Jurors had earlier heard from another witness who claimed that Singh went by the nickname Gerry who had a Chinese girlfriend.

The woman claimed that her passport was taken by the female boss.

Mr Fyffe asked what work the woman did for her.

She replied: "Initially, it was doing cleaning, cooking, shopping for food for a period of time - I can't remember how long."

Mr Fyffe asked if she knew how much she would be paid to work.

The witness replied: "They didn't pay me or mention paying me, they didn't pay me anyway.

"They said they would arrange for me to go somewhere else to work."

She earlier stated: "All the money was taken away, I know I was trafficked."

The court heard the woman was transported by a white man to another apartment where she lived alone.

The woman is said to have stated to the police that she was told she was moving due to "convenience."

She said that her job at the second apartment was "massaging the client."

The woman claimed that the clients were arranged by the female boss.

Mr Fyffe took the woman to her police statement in relation to her first client on the second night of living in the new apartment.

He said the woman stated that the female and male boss took a man into the property.

She claimed she was told that the bosses were going to go out shopping and would "come back quickly."

The statement went on: "They didn't come back for a while and I did not speak English.

"Then the client told me I had to provide him sexual services.

"I was going to go out and I realise the door was locked from the outside so I rang her."

The woman stated to officers that she was told that she “had to do this” as the client had paid.

The woman added: “I said no and she said if you don’t listen to me...I will make sure you never go back to China.”

She later claimed that she went on to meet men “everyday” at the apartment or in different hotels.

The woman stated there was not a “fixed amount” of visits per day adding: “Sometimes just a couple, sometimes quite a few, quite a lot some days, some days no one.”

The woman earlier told the court that she left the apartment after a client "helped" her.

She claimed she was given a few hundred pounds as she did not have any money and he waited on a taxi with her.

The trial continues before Judge Douglas Brown.
