A banned driver who fractured a woman's back and injured two others in a crash has been jailed for two years.

Alexander Anderson, 37, ploughed into Sasha Kerr, 23, causing his car to spin 180 degrees in Glasgow's Govan on June 30, 2021.

Anderson had undertaken traffic before smashing into Miss Kerr who was stopped at a red light at 60 to 70 miles per hour.

Her passengers Robyn Kennedy, 20, and Ben Slater, 18, as well as Anderson's lover Eve Kilgariff all suffered pain to their hip.

Miss Kerr meantime received two back fractures and reported pain 10 months after the collision.

Anderson pleaded guilty today at Glasgow Sheriff Court to causing serious injury to Miss Kerr by dangerous driving.

He also admitted driving while disqualified.

The court heard Anderson, of Govan, was behind the wheel of a Citroen C1 at a roundabout on Paisley Road West.

He was noted to be swerving from left to right and undertook a car while travelling at an estimated speed of between 60 to 70 miles per hour.

Prosecutor Lauren Donnelly said: "Anderson collided into the rear of Miss Kerr's Volkswagen Golf.

"His brake lights were not seen to be used when colliding with the Volkswagen Golf.

"The front of the Citroen collided with the passenger side of the Golf.

"The Citroen spun 180 degrees and landed on the pavement with the drivers side colliding with a brick wall."

Anderson pulled Miss Kilgariff from the vehicle before fleeing the scene.

Miss Kilgariff, Miss Kerr, Miss Kennedy and Mr Slater were all taken to hospital.

Miss Kerr reported pain in her neck, back and head before vomiting then passing out.

Miss Donnelly added: "She was diagnosed with concussion and two fractures in her back.

"The last medical update 10 months after the collision stated that she was still having backpain."

Her two passengers and Miss Kilgariff stated they had pain in their hip but required no further hospital treatment.

Anderson was traced meantime and told officers: "It was me, only reason I did it was because she could barely stand."

The hearing was told Anderson was on bail for disqualified and drunk driving at the time.

Tony Callahan, defending, added: "Mr Anderson and Miss Kilgariff had a brief relationship fuelled by alcohol.

"It was her car and they were drinking together and he drove her car as he was worried about her."

Sheriff Joan Kerr disqualified Anderson from driving for nine years as well as the prison sentence.

She said: "Your previous convictions go back almost 20 years with road traffic offences.

"This is the third time you have driven while disqualified and I have heard the nature of your driving in this incident.

"As a result, four people were injured and Miss Kerr suffered a serious injury.

"I require to deal with matters in a serious way and the only way to deal with these is to impose a custodial sentence upon you."
