A COMMUNITY will remember lost loved ones with a touching floral display this weekend.

Flowers on the Railings, the annual act of remembrance in Castlemilk, will be held on Saturday to give the bereaved a chance to reflect and celebrate the lives of those who have died.

The ceremony gets its name from the flowers sold on the day for £10 which are then tied to railings on Castlemilk Drive creating a touching floral tribute.

It takes place beside the Lost Lives Memorial Garden which was created to remember Castlemilk's lost loved ones, whether they died from natural causes or in tragic circumstances.

Immaculately kept, the garden is a place for reflection and remembrance in tranquil surroundings and with widely-respected and valued by residents.

As in previous years, Saturday's event will remember local residents who lost their lives, but this year for the first time people from beyond Castlemilk are also being encouraged to attend.

Respected community campaigner Maureen Cope MBE, one of the organisers, said: "This is a significant occasion which reflects the importance the Castlemilk community places on remembering lost loved ones.

"While there is understandable sorrow, the focus is on remembrance and appreciation for lives that have been well lived.

"This year we encourage people who want to participate from beyond the Castlemilk community to attend and celebrate the lives of loved ones."
