First Minister Nicola Sturgeon has said she is "profoundly concerned" as the Queen is placed under medical supervision.

A statement from Clarence House announced on Thursday afternoon that doctors were concerned for the monarch's health, with a parliamentary session paused while ministers were briefed.

The Queen is at Balmoral, where Prince William, Prince Charles and the Duchess of Cornwall are travelling to.

First Minister Sturgeon said: "All of us are feeling profoundly concerned at reports of Her Majesty’s health.

"My thoughts and wishes are with the Queen and all of the Royal Family at this time."

Prime Minister Liz Truss said the "whole country" would be "deeply concerned" by the news.

She added: "My thoughts - and the thoughts of people across our United Kingdom - are with Her Majesty The Queen and her family at this time."

The monarch's immediate family members have been informed, with the latest announcement escalating fears for the monarch’s health.

Prince Charles, Prince William and the Duchess of Cornwall have all travelled to Balmoral, Clarence House said.

The Queen had earlier pulled out of a virtual privy council meeting after being advised by doctors to rest.
