A screening of a popular film in a Glasgow cinema had to be stopped after multiple members of the audience began fighting.

Guests were enjoying a 3D showing of 1975 classic Jaws at Cineworld on Renfrew Street on Saturday evening in an almost-full cinema.

With around 30 minutes until the end of the film, their viewing pleasure was disrupted when a fight broke out as cinema staff attempted to remove viewers who had been talking loudly.

A source told the Glasgow Times: “We kept hearing one woman talking very loudly – she seemed drunk – and people around her were shouting at her to ‘shut the f*** up’. There was a lot of shouting and swearing and it was getting very tense.

“Some people left because they didn’t like the atmosphere, so someone went to get security.”

Cinema staff made their way into the screen and asked the woman, as well as several other viewers who were shouting at her, to leave.

Then a physical fight erupted between several people over multiple rows of seats.

“People started shouting at each other, and some refused to leave at first. I saw one guy begin to throw a punch, but he was stopped by security,” the source added.

“It was pandemonium – someone threw their juice at someone, and it sprayed us on the other side of the room.

“Eventually the lights came on and the film stopped. A good few people, maybe about 10 to 15, were removed from the cinema.

“The film was rewound by 15 minutes so the rest of us could enjoy it.”

Police Scotland said that no calls were made to the cinema on Saturday.
