A small-budget indie film which outsold major Hollywood flicks on a trial run is going to be screened in Paisley.
The Fence, a full-length adaptation of the 2018 short film of the same name, was released in a few cinemas in Bristol for six days.
But after outperforming Brad Pitt’s new thriller Bullet Train and Nope, the latest project by Jordan Peele, the release is going to be expanded at theatres across the country.
The Fence can be viewed at a one-off screening at the Showcase Cinema de Lux in Paisley on September 16, before Showcase considers extending the run.
Written and directed by filmmaker Will Stone, The Fence follows an 18-year-old working class lad who seeks the help of his pals when he has his motorcycle stolen.
It is described as a fun film that combines nostalgia, friendship and comedy, with an 80s soundtrack accompanying the adventures of the characters.
The original short film was based on stories of Mr Stone's father's childhood growing up in working-class Britain, which he thinks viewers will find relatable.
He added: “I found his stories very entertaining and at times shocking. It was a very different world then, and I was fascinated by the way people interacted with each other.
“No mobiles, no internet, a much more tactile and face-to-face approach to dealing with issues. There seemed a greater sense of community and principles.
“Now I’m delighted to say we’ve successfully adapted the short into a feature. I was able to really expand on the world and the characters that people seemed to connect with."
Mr Stone continued: "It’s taken years of incredibly hard work to make it a reality and I couldn’t be happier with the finished film.
“I think what we’ve achieved with our micro-budget is hard to rival. Every penny is up on the screen where it should be and I truly believe this is one of those few little Indie films that has the potential to break the mould and surprise people.”
The Fence stars Bridget Jones star Sally Phillips, Game of Thrones’ Eugene Simon and newcomer David Perkins.
