Ukraine entry Kalush Orchestra was crowned the winner at the 2022 competition in Turin, Italy, but the European Broadcasting Union (EBU), which produces the annual event, decided the show could not be safely held in the country following Russia's invasion.

The UK stepped in to host the contest after it came second in the competition earlier this year.

We previously reported Glasgow City Council leader Susan Aitken hinted at a major update on Glasgow's Eurovision bid yesterday evening.

While speaking at the Glasgow Business Awards at the DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel, she said: "I’ll whisper it so that we don’t jinx it.

"We might have Eurovision.

"We’ll find out tomorrow."

In a statement tonight First Minister Nicola Sturgeon said: "Congratulations, Liverpool.

"Gutted for Glasgow, but no doubt you’ll do Eurovision and Ukraine proud."
