A NEW mountain bike trail network and skills area is being proposed for a park in West Dunbartonshire.

The project at Balloch Park, a partnership between West Dunbartonshire Council and West Dunbartonshire Leisure, would see a purpose-built facility created in a section in the north of the park that would support and encourage the development of cycling skills.

Linking trails of different levels would also be created.

The project is currently out for consultation, and residents are encouraged to give feedback on the plans.

Cllr David McBride, convener of Infrastructure, Regeneration and Economic Development and chair of West Dunbartonshire Leisure Trust, said: "The proposals for a free-to-use and accessible mountain biking facility within Balloch Park are very promising and exciting.

"If the project goes ahead as planned, I’m sure this will deliver benefits to many different residents for many years to come.

"I would encourage all residents to look at the detailed plan on the consultation website and share your views."

Cllr Lawrence O’Neill, vice convener of Infrastructure, Regeneration and Economic Development, added: "Residents' feedback is vital to ensure the community’s views are reflected in any proposal, so please make sure you look at the plan and give your opinion on what is suggested for the area."

The consultation is open and will run until Friday, November 18.
