A man has died after a fire at a flat in Glasgow.

Multiple emergency services were called to the scene at Napier Place in Govan this morning at around 7.30am.

When fire crews extinguished the blaze, a 50-year-old man was found dead in the flat.

A 56-year-old woman also suffered smoke inhalation and was treated by ambulance staff.

Officers are now investigating the incident. 

A force spokesperson said: “Around 7.30 am on Wednesday, October 19, 2022, emergency services attended a report of fire at a flat in Napier Place, Govan, Glasgow.

“The fire was extinguished by SFRS and a 50-year-old man was found dead within the property.

“A 56-year-old woman was treated for smoke inhalation by SAS.

“Enquiries are ongoing into the circumstances surrounding the incident.”

The fire service confirmed that they had attended with three engines and one height vehicle, while five ambulances staff raced to the scene. 

A Scottish Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said: “We were alerted at 6.53am on Wednesday, October 19 to reports of a fire at a property on Napier Place, Glasgow.

“Operations Control mobilised three fire appliances and one height vehicle.

“The fire was extinguished and crews left the scene at 8:35am.”

A Scottish Ambulance Service spokesperson said: “We received a call from Scottish Fire and Rescue at 6.57am to attend a fire in a property at Napier Place, Glasgow.

"We dispatched five crews to the scene.”
