Community groups can apply for grants of up to £10,000 to aid in their recovery from drug and alcohol use.

The Recovery Change Fund is part of Renfrewshire Council's bid to provide support for individuals and families affected by the use of alcohol and drugs.

It has been set up in response to findings by the Alcohol and Drugs Commission which determined that people going through the recovery process need more support from their local community.

The commission then allocated a £150,000 fund as part of their £2 million Alcohol and Drugs Change Programme.

Councillor Jacqueline Cameron, said, “The fund aims to support our community and third sector groups and organisations to do more of what they do best by supporting those affected by drugs and alcohol at the heart of their communities.

"During the pandemic, we’ve seen just how vital community groups and organisations are and this fund should help them try our new initiatives or expand existing ones.”

Community groups can use the funds to expand on popular activities or pilot new projects, as well as launch initiatives that specifically tackle issues of substance use, mental health and social isolation.

Alan McNiven, chief executive for Engage Renfrewshire, added, “This second round of applications for the Recovery Change Fund will be welcomed by local organisations who are seeking to provide support to those affected by alcohol and drugs.

"Third-sector organisations are often best placed to develop a new practice that has local reach and, importantly, is reflective of the voice of those affected by the issues.

"I’m sure the fund will add innovative activity to the existing excellent local practice and help many, many more local people.”

Applications must be submitted by October 28 and funding decisions will be made in November.
