The news came earlier today in a statement made outside Downing Street, in which she said that she “accepted” her inability to deliver the manifesto she stood on.

We took to the streets of Glasgow to hear the public's thoughts on the news.
Jack Houston, 23, from Anniesland, said: "I think it's unbelievable how quickly it has turned around. It doesn't give you a lot of confidence in the Government these days."
Speaking about who would could take over, he said: "If it was Rishi Sunak, I don't think that would give people a lot of confidence, and Boris Johnson has already proved that he's not a functional Prime Minister.
"I think the best case would be that we need a new party in Government right now."
Kirsty Davies, 34, from Barrowfield, said: "I never thought I would see her resigning, not this quick anyway, but I'm glad she has.
"I hope Rishi Sunak gets to take over for her.
"I would say a General Election should take place now, because if not they can just bring in anyone they want."
Ross McIndoe, 29, from Shawlands, added: "There should definitely be a General Election.
"If they just do a leadership contest it could be someone possiblly even worse. So, it's all very bad."
Alan Stewart, 63, from Muirend, said: "My reaction to Liz Truss resigning? General Election now.
"We've had enough of the small clique choosing the Prime Minister. We need a General Election and a Labour Government to get Britain back on its feet.
"I'm really pleased she's gone, but she should never have been in the position in the first place. Her manifesto of tax cuts for the rich and being paid for by the ordinary working people was shocking."
Liz Stevenson, 67, from East Kilbride, said: "I'm so glad she's gone.
"Bring Scottish independence on, Scotland needs a new start."
