A popular Govan radio station is opening their doors to help Glaswegians save money on their gas and electricity this winter.

Sunny G community radio is hosting various free activities and fun sessions from November until January to allow people to get out of their house and switch off heating and electricity for a few hours.

Some of the sessions will include bingo, retro game and movie nights.

Steven Gilfoyle, development manager at Sunny G radio, said: "It's disgusting that we live in a society where we need to do this in 2022, and where people can't afford to be warm this winter.

"We hear it every day in Govan, that people are choosing between food and fuel and even before the pandemic, there has always been fuel poverty in Government."

He added: "This winter is going to take lives. It's going to be a serious issue.

"But, if people can come and get their heating off for a few hours, it means they can manage through the winter."

Steven said: "It makes us feel horrible that there's such a demand for this.

"It's unfortunate that we need to do this, but it has to be done."

The 21-year-old said: "We hope to put a smile on people's faces. I don't think people have a lot of morale left."

The first of the winter warmer sessions will be on Monday, November 7 which will be retro video game night.

Free food, snacks and beverages will also be provided during the sessions including hot chocolate, crisps and soup.
