Football fans have helped to boost Glasgow Subway passenger numbers to their highest since before the Covid-19 pandemic.
In the past month, the SPT service has recorded over 56,000 passengers on two dates, Wednesday, October 12 and Tuesday, November 1.

Both of these highs are said to be thanks in part to an extra 5000 passengers per day who used the subway to travel to football matches at Ibrox.
As Rangers took on Ajax on Tuesday, a total 58,887 passengers made use of the system, the highest daily number recorded since October of 2018.
Combined with more people returning to public transport for work and leisure purposes, SPT bosses have now said that passenger patronage is at approximately 95% of pre-Covid figures.

SPT director of Subway Antony Smith said: “Like all public transport operators, we have been very concerned about the longer-term impact of Covid on our services.
“As more people have returned to work and to enjoy leisure activities again, we have seen a difference in the way people use the Subway with more people travelling at weekends and a smaller peak in commuter traffic during the week.
“Our staff have done an excellent job to get these high numbers of passengers through the system quickly and safely on two very busy nights."
SPT chair of operations David Wilson added: “On behalf of the partnership, I want to pass on our congratulations to all staff on reaching these fantastic milestones.
“Subway staff have worked very hard to ensure a safe environment for all passengers and it is excellent to see this paying off with passengers returning in such positive numbers.”
