Renfrew residents have complained about “unbearable noise” caused by a funfair in Robertson Park – prompting the council to take action.
A petition with 71 signatures was submitted to the local authority, which cited “disruption” sparked by a carnival run by Thomson’s Event Group at the beauty spot in the early part of September this year.
Jean Kane, a neighbour of the park, told councillors and officers on Monday of the upset in the immediate community because of the amusements.

She said: “It was unbearable noise. I don’t know everyone that lives in the area of Riglands Way and Craigielea Road, but there was a consensus that people had to do something about this because it was unbearable.
“There are people who work night shift, work shifts, who have young children.
“The chap three doors along from me couldn’t get on with his work.
“He had important papers to write, he couldn’t hear the phone, couldn’t do anything and he had to take everything with him and live, maybe, with a family member so he could do his work.
“That is just not good enough.”

Ms Kane had said one woman had told her she was struggling to sleep, while another elderly resident said she had “never experienced anything like it”.
However, it was the circumstances of a man and his relative that stuck in her mind.
She added: “Relations of his are undergoing treatment and go to hospital for treatment but after they get their treatment they are very unwell.
“They had to suffer this noise.
“That isn’t fair, that’s not what people should have, that’s not what you would want on your doorstep.
“You’ve got to treat people with kindness and thoughtfulness. That’s what I believe.”
Karen Anderson, council sustainability, place and assets manager, offered an apology to Ms Kane about the situation.
She said: “I’m really sorry that you’ve found yourself in this position.
“I’m wholly responsible for who we allow in terms of events within that park in Renfrew and I’m responsible for taking measures to ensure that it doesn’t cause issues for the public.
“So, in the first instance I just want to say I’m really sorry that you’ve had to go to the efforts to get a petition together and I’m really keen that we do something to assist you.”
She then explained that the council will reduce the period that fairs are allowed to operate from a fortnight to a maximum of one week.
They will also be reminded they should be positioned along the middle path of the park and not towards housing.
Additionally, the standard maximum noise level requirements will be reduced to a lower level.
Ms Anderson added: “It has been a lesson learned for us to make sure that those control measures are put in place.”
