A FIRST offender was snared dropping off a £78,000 cannabis haul at a flat.

Stephen McElroy, 40, was found with the drugs in Glasgow's Woodlands on May 21, 2020.

The city's Sheriff Court was told that McElroy, of Coatbridge, North Lanarkshire, was under police surveillance at the time.

Officers tailed his vehicle to the property on Arlington Street.

Prosecutor Jessica McGowan said: "He was seen parking his car and entering the flat carrying two bags that had a strong smell of cannabis."

Officers raided the address after a search warrant was granted.

Miss McGowan said: "The search brought about the two large bags McElroy was carrying and they were seized.

"The wholesale value of the drugs was £30,400 while the potential street value is £78,000."

McElroy - a dad - pleaded guilty today to being concerned in the supply of cannabis.

Kieran Dean, defending, said: "It is a very serious matter.

"I have submitted two letters from Mr McElroy directly as well as the football club that he assists."

It was also stated that McElroy is a carer for a man with significant health problems.

Sentence was deferred pending background reports until next month by Sheriff Joseph Platt.

McElroy had his bail continued meantime.
