UNITE is hosting a fundraising event with a local folk rock band in Glasgow city centre tomorrow evening.

The Wakes will be performing at the Admiral Bar on Waterloo Street from 7pm to raise money for those in need.

The gig is being supported by Fans Supporting Food Banks and The People's Pantry which is a membership-based community food shop that provides good quality food at a subsidised rate.

People attending the gig are being asked to bring non-perishable food for a Christmas food drive.

Unite Organiser Joe Rollin said: "If you’re in Glasgow this Friday come down to the gig for some great music and solidarity.

"‘Unite for a Workers’ Economy’ is about bringing change by building working-class power on the picket line and in our communities.

"Music is just one of the many ways we can bring people together to have some fun but to support our communities at the same time."

Andy Harris, from Fans Supporting Foodbanks in Glasgow, said: "It's a scandal that food poverty still exists in this day and age.

"The UK is the 6th richest country in the world, and we've got kids who are going to bed hungry and going to school in the morning without having breakfast.

"So, it's events like this that show what a united, working class looks like.

"Communities coming together, rising up and driving change through solidarity, not charity."

The Wakes are a folk rock band from Glasgow, Scotland

The band's sound is a mixture of Celtic traditional music fused with punk rock punk and funk.
