The Christmas lights were switched on at George Square tonight as over 10,000 people counted down from ten.

Amongst the crowd were families, friends and groups, who all felt the festive spirit as the lights went on at 7pm.

Chelsea Rankin, 31, from Blantyre, arrived with her daughter Harper.

She said: "I think it's great. It's brilliant for the kids and there is lots of entertainment to keep them busy."

Craig Brown took his family from Bishopbriggs to the event.

He said: "I'm glad the rain is not here, it's a dry night. The kids have been looking forward to it, that's the main thing.

"We were here about four years ago, pre-Covid, so it's great to be back and hopefully we have a good night."

Veronica Glendinning and Teeny Ng, showed up dressed as elves.

Veronica said: "It's an amazing atmosphere today, there rae young and old people, it just gives a sense of Christmas.

"It feels nice, everyone is enjoying themselves, and there is food and live music."

Charlotte O'Brien, from Springburn, also took her daughter, who is five years old.

The 22-year-old said: "We are excited, it's putting us in the Christmas spirit and it's nice because she has never seen the lights go on, this is the first time for all of us.

"The music is good. We are the most excited to see the lights go on."

Adele Tompson, 36, and her daughter Sophia Murney, 10, came from Kelvindale.

Adele said: "We are really excited, mostly for the fireworks, we think the Little Mix tribute band was great."

Sophia added: "Yes, and the decorations are very bright and Christmassy. I am very excited to see all the lights and fireworks."

Glasgow Times:

Declan Todd, from the East End, was on duty for the occasion.

He said: "The Christmas spirit is certainly here, what the vent is going to get everybody together. We are here to help people have a good time and enjoy everybody's safety.

"I used to come here with my parents as a child, so it's great to see it from a different perspective."

Glasgow Times:

Margaret O'Hare, travelled from Balornock.

The 53-year-old said: "We are very excited to be here, glad we won the tickets this year because the last few years, we didn't get them.

"We got eight, so we have our grandkids and nephew with us.

"We are all set for Christmas and looking forward to the fireworks."

Janice Howie, 55, added: "It's nice to be back, we haven't been for a few years. Tonight, I am in the Christmas spirit."
