1. Glasgow market traders forced to close businesses at The Forge
Glasgow market traders have been left with no source of income just weeks before Christmas after being forced to vacate a city shopping centre.
Around 35 business owners who trade from the Market Village in The Forge Shopping Centre were unexpectedly told on Monday night that they wouldn’t be able to open their stores the following day.
It is understood that the company that operates the market has gone into liquidation.
2. Cocktail bar and speakeasy Devil of Brooklyn opens in Glasgow
A stunning new speakeasy has tip-toed into Glasgow city centre offering an impressive array of speciality cocktails.
Eagle-eyed punters may have stumbled across Devil of Brooklyn on Renfield Street, which has been slowly releasing ‘chapters’ of its cocktail menu ahead of its grand opening on December 1.
Devil of Brooklyn is the newest venture from the team behind Tabac, taking over the former Fratelli Sarti unit and transforming it into a bar that is both relaxed and upscale.
3. Family's agony over disappearance of Castlemilk man Barry McCullagh
The distraught family of a Glasgow man missing for six weeks say their lives have been torn apart as they desperately try to find answers to explain his disappearance.
Barry McCullagh was spotted leaving the Royal Alexandra Hospital in Paisley on October 5 and hasn't been seen since.
His sister Stacey has told how family members are now conducting their own daily searches for the 41-year-old - and believe that someone holds key information on his whereabouts.
4. Glasgow mum 'clings on for life' to keep salon open during cost crisis
A salon owner feels she is “clinging on for dear life” as the cost-of-living crisis piles on pressure.
Ashley Bitters is struggling to balance business and home life while battling the worst economic emergency since the 1970s.
The 41-year-old, who has a salon in Whiteinch, has been forced to put up her prices with a cut and blow-dry going from £29 to £40 in an attempt to tackle inflation.
5. Stephanie Bonner to speak in Holyrood about loss of son Rhys
A heartbroken mum who claims she has waited almost three years for answers as to how and where her son lost his life has won an audience with MSPs to air her plight at the Scottish Parliament.
Brave Stephanie Bonner is campaigning for better support from police for families left to cope with the unexplained death of loved ones.
Her son Rhys, 19, was discovered lifeless in marshland between Easterhouse and Gartloch Village on August 8, 2019.
6. Two Doors Down star on 'horrific disease' and backing Glasgow charity
When he was asked to play a man diagnosed with mesothelioma, actor Jonathan Watson admits he had never heard of the deadly disease.
“For all that I was born and bred in Glasgow and had heard of asbestos poisoning, I soon realised everything I knew was just the tip of the iceberg,” he explains.
“Phyllis, from Action on Asbestos, came to talk to all of the cast and she was absolutely fantastic. I had no idea what a horrific disease it is, and how it impacts on families and communities - and that there is still no cure.”
