A group of "enthusiastic" volunteers have revamped a Cumbernauld school garden after it was vandalised.

Virgin Media O2 volunteers renovated Redburn School's sensory garden back in September, to give "new life" to the space.

The volunteering team spent over 40 hours at the North Lanarkshire school, which serves as a joint primary and secondary school for young people with additional support needs.

The volunteers painted the outhouse, relayed flower beds and mended the garden's bridge.

Joanne Donnelly, PTA at Redburn Schoo,l said: “A huge thank you to Nicola and the team for their amazing work in revamping the sensory garden.

"Redburn School helps children with complex learning needs and the space provides the children with a place to relax, interact with nature and immerse themselves in the outdoors.

"We’re now in the process of thinking about new ideas and ways to make the garden even more interactive and can’t wait to get started again in the new year.”

The volunteers were able to take part as a result of Virgin Media O2’s Take Five initiative, which offers all staff five paid volunteering days a year to support projects, either in-person or digitally.

The team are planning to return to the school in the future, to revamp the grounds even further.
