A popular café has launched a new line of festive treats to raise money for food banks in Glasgow.
Outlier, one of Glasgow’s top-rated coffee shops, has been supporting the local community since it first opened its doors in January.
Now, the team of speciality bakers led by Máté Gehberger have been building gingerbread tenement houses to raise money for food banks.
Máté came up with the idea and created a series of 50 bespoke gingerbread houses and tenement buildings from scratch, using a scalpel to cut out the windows in each one.
After sharing the project on social media this week, the gingerbread buildings had almost sold out within 24 hours, inspiring the team to keep baking them for their customers in the run-up to Christmas.
Outlier is selling small houses for £5 and large tenements for £10, with all proceeds going towards helping local food banks.

The team at Outlier is also urging customers to bring in food bank donations and will be operating a coat drive over the winter.
People are encouraged to pop by the café on London Road to donate any warm clothes, as well as food bank items like non-perishable foods, nappies, baby formula, and toiletries.
Steven Turner, the owner of Outlier, told the Glasgow Times that helping out in the community is a key part of the café’s ethos.
He said: “There’s a lot of people that aren’t being supported.
“I’ve worked in this area for about four years before Outlier opened and was quite privy to the lack of funding on this side of the city.
“And the lack of amenities for people with addiction problems and stuff like that.
“In the city centre, you see a lot of at-risk people.”
Outlier have teamed up with Kindness Homeless Street Team Glasgow to ensure that their donations are distributed to vulnerable community members.
The success of the gingerbread houses has inspired the team to think bigger for next year and they hope to introduce workshops to help local kids build their own tenements.
If you have any warm clothes or items to donate, visit Outlier at 38 London Road, G1 5NB during opening hours.
