GLASGOW traffic cops will be holding roadside checks across the city, ensuring vehicles are ready for the winter weather.
Led by Chief Inspector Lorraine Napier, road policing officers carried out random checks on vehicles travelling along Renfrew Road yesterday as part of a festive safety and drink/ drug driving initiative.
While no arrests were made, corrective advice was given to some drivers about the condition of their vehicles, including one whose number plate was not visible.

Drivers across the city are now being urged to make sure their car is safe to drive before setting off.
Chief Inspector Lorraine Napier, West Area Commander, Road Policing Division, said: "During this cold snap it’s really important to check the safety of your vehicle and to clear it before you drive.
"If it’s been snowing, that means removing all the snow from your car.
"If it’s been frosty, scrape all your windows, not just your full windscreen but also your side windows.
"Make sure you’ve got enough fluid in your washers so you can clean your windows, and make sure you’ve got sufficient fuel for your journey as well."

As well as making sure their car is safe to drive, road users are also being reminded to drive to the conditions, with snow and ice not the only issue they might face.
Chief Inspector Napier added: "Today is a beautiful day but there is low sun and that can seriously affect visibility for driving, so we ask all road users to drive to the conditions and take that into consideration."
A Police Scotland spokesperson said: "Road Policing officers today, Thursday, December 15, 2022, stopped a number of vehicles as part of a festive safety and drink/drug driving initiative in Govan today.
"On this occasion, no arrests were made, however, corrective advice was given to some drivers regarding the condition of their vehicles including a number plate not being visible which is an offence.
"We’d like to remind drivers, especially in the colder, wintery weather, to drive to the conditions of the road and keep windscreens and lights free from dirt.
"Driving conditions today were made particularly challenging due to the low sun and subsequent glare.
"Take care when driving in difficult conditions.
"Leave plenty of time for your journey and prepare your vehicle before driving.
"Make sure your vehicle is cleared of any snow or frost, not just the windscreen but also the side and rear windows and from the roof if there is snow on it.
"By following a few simple rules, you can help make your journey and that of other road users safer."
