An East End nursery has scored the highest ‘excellent’ ratings during an inspection as its staff were praised as “compassionate.”

Tower View Nursery lets children play outside in all weathers and youngsters get “high quality play experience” according to watchdog inspectors. 

With a low staff turnover, the manager was also described as “inspirational.” 

The Glasgow City Council nursery was rated as ‘excellent’ for ‘care, play and learning’ as inspectors found its performance to be “sector leading.”

The facility’s ‘leadership’ also gained an ‘excellent’ score. 

The Mossvale Road nursery looks after up to 140 children before they are ready for school. 

An inspection report from the Care Inspectorate said: “Children consistently received outstanding care and support from compassionate staff who knew them extremely well.” 

It added: “Children were meaningfully and actively involved in leading their play and learning through a balance of spontaneous and planned high quality experiences that promoted children’s choice and independence.”

Commenting on the leadership, the report said: “Staff, children and families benefited from the manager being an inspirational leader, who promoted a model of distributed leadership amongst their team. As a result, all staff were highly motivated and enthusiastic, clearly happy to be at their work and lead children’s learning.”

The nursery scored ‘very good’ for its ‘setting’ and ‘staff team,’ which is the the second highest ranking given by the Care Inspectorate.  The report, which was published last week, said: “Very good staff retention and staff support ensured a staff team who worked well together in delivering high quality experiences for children.”

Commenting on the setting, the inspection report said: “Playrooms and outdoor play areas were safe and secure, welcoming and stimulating. These high quality facilities contributed to children being safe, active and meaningfully engaged in their play.”

One parent said: “All staff are so welcoming and friendly. (My child) settled in so easily and quickly. I am always updated and kept in the loop with anything that is happening either if it is events or if (my child) has hurt herself. (My child’s) keyworker always goes above and beyond my expectations, she is so kind and caring and you can see that she really cares for the kids.”

Three inspectors visiting the nursery and the inspection report was published earlier this month.
