Queen’s Park FC Foundation kicked off Christmas for a Glasgow charity last week. 

The football foundation funded a Christmas party for Glasgow’s Golden Generation charity, which took place at the David Cargill Day Centre on Friday, December 16.

The charity, which works to reduce isolation in older adults and to relieve loneliness, recently partnered with the foundation to launch a Football Memories group, which takes place every second Tuesday.

Owen Coyle, the current manager of Queen’s Park Football Club, attended the festive event. 

Coyle said: “It was lovely to meet the service users at Glasgow’s Golden Generation and see first-hand the difference our support makes.

“The launch of the Football Memories Group has been well received so the festive party is the icing on the Christmas cake."

Queen’s Park FC Foundation helped put on the party for all service users and volunteers through the SPFL Trust’s Festive Friends initiative.

Christine Douglas, David Cargill Day Centre manager, said: “After two years of cancelled parties because of the pandemic it’s fantastic to be back.

“We can’t thank Queen’s Park Football Club Foundation enough for their support this year.

“It’s been great to see our older adults reminisce about Scottish football – we even discovered one of our service users worked in Hampden stadium for years, so we were able to take her back to visit.

“Her face just lit up when we got there.”

The football memories group is led by staff from the Queen’s Park FC Foundation and involves reminiscence, armchair exercises and more.

The group will relaunch on January 10.
