Police have launched a manhunt after a man was brutally attacked in Glasgow's Merchant City a week before Christmas.

The 34-year-old man was assaulted on Glassford Street between Wilson Street and Trongate in the early hours of Sunday, December 18.

The man was taken to Queen Elizabeth University Hospital with serious injuries following the 'attempted murder'.

Cops were informed of a man receiving treatment around 8.20pm on Wednesday, December 21.

Detective Sergeant Donna McDougall, of Glasgow CID, said: “A man has been left with serious injuries and it is vital we trace whoever is responsible.

“Our enquiries are ongoing and we would appeal to anyone who witnessed this incident, or noticed anything at all suspicious, to come forward.

"This area was busy with people out socialising and we are particularly keen to speak to people who were in the Merchant City area around this time.

"Anyone with any relevant dash-cam or CCTV footage who has not spoken to police yet, is urged to contact officers.
