Broadband issues with provider Virgin Media have sparked outrage across Glasgow as people struggle to connect to the internet.

Down Detector, a service for reporting website outages, received hundreds of reports on Wednesday, December 28.

At 12.12pm, the website peaked at 843 reports.

A Virgin Media spokesperson said that they were aware of issues with the cable services and apologised to customers affected.

A social media post claimed the issue would not be resolved until next year, however, a spokesperson told the Glasgow Times that they could not guarantee a date or time and are 'working to restore the service'.

People across Glasgow took to Twitter to report issues.

One user wrote: "Is there known issues in the G72 area? Broadband keeps disconnecting."

A spokesperson for Virgin Media wrote: "We are aware of an issue currently in the Glasgow area, the current estimated fix date is 5th January 2023 although this is being worked on to fully resolve as quickly as possible. RP"

Another user wrote: "I'm the same in the G21 area."

Other users reported outages in the G33 area and Newton Mearns.

One user complained about the issue being widespread over a few weeks.

They wrote: "I see it's pretty widespread in Glasgow going by your tweets but no internet in G46.

"Service has been incredibly poor over the last few weeks with the internet dropping at various periods."

A spokesperson from Virgin Media said: "We are aware of an issue affecting the cable services of some of our customers in Glasgow.

"We apologise to those who have been impacted, and our teams are currently working to restore normal service as a priority.”
