A THUG armed with a knives who attacked employees at Lidl was jailed today for 16 months.

Lukasz Modzelewzki-Grabarek, 35, lashed out at Ross McClure and Momoh Conteh at the store in Glasgow's Govanhill on July 3 last year.

The city's sheriff court heard employees attention was drawn to Modzelewzki-Grabarek who was shopping.

Modzelewzki-Grabarek left after 30 minutes but was asked to return to the store by the manager Mr McClure and Mr Conteh.

Prosecutor John Bedford said: "He immediately started struggling with them.

"He kicked Mr Conteh on at least two occasions.

"One was to the left shin and one was to his knee.

"During the struggle, items fell out of his jacket pocket which were a craft knife and a Stanley knife."

Modzelewzki-Grabarek went on strike Mr McClure and pushed out towards him.

Police attended and the knives were recovered.

Modzelewzki-Grabarek pleaded guilty to assaulting the two men.

He also admitted possession of two knives in a public place without a reasonable excuse or lawful authority.

It was revealed that he has an identical previous conviction for knife.

Modzelewzki-Grabarek's lawyer told the court that he had recently lost his job as a packer at the time.

Sheriff Tom Hughes said: "You have a bad record of previous convictions.

"While I accept you had unfortunate circumstances, it does not excuse your conduct on the day in question, and a custodial sentence is inevitable."

The sentence will commence after Modzelewzki-Grabarek completes an earlier 182-day jail term for a similar matter.
