A MAN was tasered by cops after 'causing a disturbance' in Glasgow.

It is claimed an individual was seen 'running around' the city centre on Wednesday afternoon before being tasered by police and tackled to the ground near George Square. 

An eyewitness told the Glasgow Times: “Then he ran into Queen Street station to George Square and at that point, another police van came zooming round the corner.

“A load of people gathered at George Square and he was on the ground with a load of officers around him.”

Images sent to the Glasgow Times show a police car and a group of officers at the side of George Square while a crowd of people were standing nearby. 

The force confirmed that they had been called to the alleged incident and used a taser. 

A 32-year-old man was arrested and charged and will appear in court. 

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Police received a report of a man causing a disturbance on Sauchiehall Street in Glasgow around 12.30pm on Wednesday, January 18, 2023.

“Officers attended and a 32-year-old man was arrested and charged in connection with the incident a short time later. He is due to appear at Glasgow Sheriff Court on Thursday, January 19.

“A taser was deployed during this incident.

"As with any taser deployment, the circumstances of the incident will be referred to the Police Investigations and Review Commissioner.”
